The Department of Computer Science of BFSU was founded in 2009, on the basis of its predecessor — the Computer Center,built in 1990. It enrolls students specializing in computer science and technology and aims to produce high-level computer professionals with international perspectives and inter-disciplinary educational background.

Currently, our Department has 11 teachers, most of whom have doctoral degrees or senior professional titles. In the recent 5 years, we have completed 2 projects funded by National Natural Science Foundation of China, 2 projects supported by National Social Science Foundation, and 6 provincial or ministry level projects. In addition, we have presented papers at international conferences and published academic papers on Chinese and foreign journals, including 26 published on SCI, EI and CSSCI journals.

Our Department aims to produce professionals who master the basic theories and skills related to computer hardware and software and their application, and combine language competence, business knowledge and computer skills in order to keep up with the rapid development of information technology and economic globalization.

We currently have 93 undergraduate students enrolled in our programs. They have done exceptionally well in all kinds of contests. For example, they won the second prize in the Challenge Cup National Undergraduate Extracurricular Scientific Work Competition,the first prize in China College Students Computer Design Contest, and a number of prizes in the Mathematical Contest in Modeling. Our students also have good English language proficiency, and most of them pass TEM-4 (Test for English Major-Band 4) and over half of them pass TEM-8 (Test for English Major-Band 8). After graduation, one third of our students choose to pursue further studies in foreign universities such as the University of Southern California, the University of North Carolina and the University of Cambridge; one third go for further studies in well-known Chinese universities such as Tsinghua University, Peking University and Beijing Institute of Technology; and one third find jobs in banks, government agencies, IT companies, etc.

School of Marxism

The School of Marxism of BFSU has a history of nearly 30 years. It first started as the Department of Social Sciences, was renamed as the School of Philosophy and Social Sciences in September 2007 and got its current name in June 2014.

The School consists of 5 faculty offices, 4 research centers, 1 reference room and 1 administrative office. We offers compulsory courses in political studies as well as general education elective courses for all undergraduate students and master’s and PhD candidates of BFSU. We also do research in Marxism-related studies. In addition, we offer master’s programs in cultural diplomacy studies as well as in scientific socialism and international communist movement. The School currently has a total staff of 16, including 2 professors, 6 associate professors, 6 lecturers and 1 administrative assistant.
